MX Record
Mail Exchange
If you use Google Workspace, your MX records point at Google’s mail servers. Microsoft 365, Microsoft’s. Every email sent to you@yourbusiness.com.au follows them to your inbox. When you set up business email, these are the records your provider asks you to add.
Why it matters: this is the record that breaks most often during website moves. Someone switches hosting, the new setup overwrites the DNS records, and email quietly stops arriving — sometimes for days before anyone notices. Rescuing exactly that situation is bread-and-butter work for me.
What to do: before any hosting or DNS change, note your current MX records. Moving your website should never touch them. If email does go quiet after a change, this is the first place to look.
