Customer Relationship Management
CRM stands for Customer Relationship Management, but forget that. What it really means is one place holding your contact details, what you’ve discussed, what you’ve quoted, and when to follow up next. Think of it as a super-powered address book — one that remembers every conversation and never forgets a follow-up.
It replaces the sticky notes on your monitor, the customer details buried in your phone, and the notebook with names you can’t quite read. It also replaces that spreadsheet with six tabs and no structure.
Why it matters: I’ve talked to business owners who lost a $3,000 job because they forgot to follow up on a quote. Not because they didn’t want the work — it just slipped through the cracks. A CRM doesn’t make you a better salesperson. It stops you losing the easy wins.
You don’t have to pay for one. HubSpot’s free tier is genuinely good, and under 50 clients, a well-structured spreadsheet honestly works. Start there. Upgrade when it hurts.
