Local Pack — Plain English Definition | PSOS

Local Pack

Search for any local service and the first thing you see is a map with three businesses under it. That’s the Local Pack — and it sits above every regular search result. Each listing shows the business name, star rating, review count, and hours, all pulled from the business’s Google Business Profile.

Three spots, every competitor in your area wanting one. Google fills them on three factors: relevance (does your profile match the search?), distance, and prominence. Prominence mostly means reviews plus a complete, active profile.

How to compete: finish every section of your profile, keep your NAP details consistent across the web, and build a steady flow of genuine reviews. For a local business, ranking in the pack is usually worth more than ranking #1 in the results below it.
