My Commitment
Plain Speak Online Services
Plain Speak Online Services exists to help Australian small businesses grow their online presence through honest, jargon-free digital services — whilst having an overall positive impact on the community and the environment.
PSOS isn't just here to build websites and run campaigns. The way business is done matters as much as the work itself. That's why a set of public commitments guide every decision made — from which tools are used, to how people are treated, to the impact left on the world.
Stakeholder Governance
In making business decisions, the owner of PSOS commits to considering the impact of those decisions on all stakeholders, including:
- Clients and the small business communities served by PSOS
- The workers, contractors, and collaborators who contribute to projects
- The local and broader community in which PSOS operates
- The natural environment, through responsible choices in how the business is run
- The long-term sustainability and integrity of PSOS as a force for good
This commitment is made publicly and voluntarily as part of an aspiration to meet the standards set by B Lab for Certified B Corporations.
Environmental & Climate Action
Every business — even a digital one — has an environmental footprint. While the impact of a micro digital services business is smaller than many industries, PSOS takes responsibility for it and actively works to reduce it.
What PSOS does
- Remote-first operations. I work from home, eliminating daily commute emissions. Client meetings are conducted online wherever suitable.
- Digital-first delivery. The core service — web design, digital marketing, and online strategy — is delivered entirely digitally. Occasional physical items like client welcome packs may happen, but the business model is built around digital delivery.
- Considered tool choices. I evaluate the environmental credentials of the hosting providers, platforms, and SaaS tools I use and recommend to clients.
Stripe Climate — 1% for Carbon Removal
PSOS contributes 1% of revenue through Stripe Climate to fund permanent carbon removal technologies. These contributions support Frontier, an advance market commitment to purchase over $1 billion in permanent carbon removal by 2030. This isn't carbon offsetting — it's funding the next generation of technologies that physically remove CO₂ from the atmosphere.
Commitment going forward
PSOS is working toward measuring its full operational carbon footprint and developing a formal climate action plan. As a micro business, direct emissions are modest, but I believe in transparency and continuous improvement.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Good digital services should be accessible to everyone, and the businesses PSOS serves should reflect the diversity of the communities they operate in.
Commitments
- Accessible design as standard. Every website I build follows web accessibility best practices (WCAG guidelines), ensuring people with disabilities can access and use the sites I create.
- Plain English for everyone. The commitment to jargon-free communication isn't just a brand position — it's an inclusion practice. Technical language can be a barrier, and I work to remove it.
- Inclusive client relationships. I welcome and actively support small businesses of all backgrounds, including LGBTI+-owned businesses, female-owned and female-led businesses, First Nations businesses, businesses from underrepresented communities, and businesses in regional areas.
- Fair engagement. When I work with contractors, freelancers, or collaborators, everyone is treated with respect and paid fairly, regardless of background.
DEI is an ongoing journey, not a destination. I'm committed to learning, listening, and improving my practices over time.
Supporting Community & Not-for-Profits
I believe small businesses and community organisations deserve access to quality digital services, regardless of their budget.
PSOS offers discounted services for registered not-for-profits, charities, and community organisations. Where capacity allows, I also take on a limited number of pro-bono projects each year for organisations doing meaningful work in the community.
If you're a not-for-profit or charity and you'd like to talk about how PSOS could help, get in touch. I'd love to hear about what you're working on.
Accessibility
PSOS is committed to making its own website and the websites it builds for clients as accessible as possible. This means:
- Using semantic HTML and proper heading structures
- Ensuring sufficient colour contrast ratios
- Providing meaningful alt text for images
- Building sites that work with screen readers and keyboard navigation
- Testing across devices and assistive technologies
If you experience any accessibility issues on this website, please contact me and I'll work to fix them promptly.
Human Rights & Responsible Supply Chain
As a digital services business, the PSOS supply chain is primarily made up of software platforms, hosting providers, and occasional contractors or freelancers. I take responsibility for the choices made in this chain.
Approach
- Tool and platform selection. I consider the ethical practices of the SaaS platforms I use and recommend to clients, including their data handling, labour practices, and environmental commitments.
- Contractor relationships. Any contractors or freelancers I engage are treated fairly, paid promptly, and given clear scope and expectations. I do not engage in exploitative practices.
- Data responsibility. Client and customer data is handled in accordance with the Australian Privacy Act and the PSOS Privacy Policy. I practise data minimisation — I only collect what I need and don't sell or share data unnecessarily.
Transparency about gaps
Not every tool in the PSOS tech stack has strong environmental or social governance credentials. I've audited the sustainability and human rights disclosures of every platform I use, and while most major suppliers (such as Google, Microsoft, Stripe, Canva, Atlassian, and Shopify) publish detailed sustainability reports and modern slavery statements, some do not.
Where a key supplier has no public sustainability or human rights disclosures, I document that gap and monitor for improvements. I'm also committed to raising these questions directly with suppliers and factoring ESG credentials into future platform decisions.
Full details of this audit are available on request.
The B Corp Journey
PSOS is actively working toward B Corp certification — a rigorous, independent assessment that measures a business's entire social and environmental impact. PSOS isn't certified yet, but B Corp principles are being embedded now so that pursuing certification is a natural next step, not a retrofit.
I'll share updates on progress as I go. If you'd like to talk about what I'm doing or why, get in touch.
